Plastic pallets are molded as a single piece, so there are no seams for water or residue to collect in, and they can go through hundreds of wash cycles without fading or shedding material.
They are also safer to work with day to day. Wood pallets splinter and shed loose nails over time, which can tear packaging and injure warehouse staff. Plastic pallets do not splinter, so your product stays intact and your team is not dealing with an avoidable hazard.
Predictable Shipping Weight
Wood absorbs moisture, and a pallet that picks up water during transit can end up noticeably heavier than the one you weighed at the warehouse. That difference shows up as freight charges you did not plan for. Plastic does not absorb water the way wood does, so the pallet you weigh before shipping stays close to the pallet the carrier weighs on arrival.
Dimensional Stability, On the Line and In the Racks
Wood shrinks and swells with humidity along its width, though barely along its length, and repeated cycles of that eventually warp the boards. A warped pallet sits crooked under a load, and a forklift operator struggles to align the fork with a tine opening that is no longer square. Plastic shrinks far less. PP, for example, has a shrink rate of about 1.6%, so a plastic pallet holds its shape through temperature swings and years of use.
That stability matters even more if you run automated equipment. Conveyors and robotic pickers are calibrated to a fixed pallet footprint, and a pallet that shifts shape throws off the positioning sensors. Plastic pallets also let you mold an RFID tag directly into the pallet body rather than sticking one to the surface, which is how wood pallets usually handle tracking. An embedded tag does not peel off, so the pallet stays traceable for its entire working life.

More Pallets Per Shipment
Plastic pallets can be molded into paletas de plástico encajables, so each stacked layer adds only about 50mm of height. Standard wood pallets, which cannot nest, add close to 95mm per layer. When a wood pallet is no longer usable, the intact boards can go toward refurbishing a small number of other pallets, but most of the scrap ends up as low-grade molded pallets or gets burned. Plastic pallets can be recycled up to 8 to 10 times, and the pellets from a pallet that has reached the end of that cycle still have value. They get reprocessed into things like plastic sheeting or other lower-load products, so the material stays in circulation instead of going to a landfill. This is one of the main reasons businesses tell us they are moving away from wood.
Less Weight, Lower Fuel Costs
Wood pallets rated for heavy loads need thicker boards, and thicker boards mean more weight per pallet. That extra weight adds up in fuel costs, since you are burning fuel to move the pallet itself, not just the goods on it. Plastic pallets reach the same load rating through reinforcement ribs and modified resin rather than added material. A heavy-duty wood pallet weighing 22 to 25kg has a plastic equivalent in the 9 to 17kg range, roughly 8 to 13kg lighter. That adds up whether you are moving pallets across a yard or across a continent.

A cheap wood pallet looks like the budget option on paper, but it also loses structural integrity fastest, sometimes after just a handful of trips. A solid new wood pallet and a virgin-material plastic pallet both run around $50, but the plastic one keeps performing over 10 years instead of 3.
